Flying isn’t Just for the Air. Richard Branson Introduces New Aero Submarine, the Necker Nymph

If you think of flying as something that only happens above the earth, it’s time to think again. Sir Richard Branson has introduced the Necker Nymph, an underwater aero submarine designed and built by Graham Hawkes of Hawkes Ocean Technologies. The Necker Nymph is a three-person underwater craft that has been described as an underwater aircraft.

The Necker Nymph can glide across the surface of the ocean and then dive under using downward “lift” on the wings to submerge itself as low as 36,000 feet.

While eager explorers might want to jump in line to experience this new marvel of technology… the price tag is more than most can handle. A ride in the Necker Nymph requires that you rent Sir Richard Branson’s luxury 105-foot catarmaran the Necker Belle for the cool price of $88,000 per week. The fee to take the Necker Nymph out for a little underwater ride is an additional $25,000 per week.

U.S. Senate Forms General Aviation Caucus

Two U.S. Senators, Mark Begich and Mike Johanns have formed a General Aviation Caucus with the goal of insuring that “a safe and vibrant environment exists for GA in our country.” The two Senators are now encouraging their colleagues to join and have sent all members of the US Senate a letter discussing the importance of general aviation in the U.S.. The caucus comes on the heels of widespread backlash against the media after a story that ran on September 17th in USA Today that portrayed small U.S. airports as receiving an unbalanced amount of federal funding. NBC’s The Today Show is also feeling the heat from the general aviation industry after they ran a similar report.

TIGHAR (The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery), the world’s leading aviation archaeological foundation has been working to discover the truth about Earhart and has led nine expeditions to the island of Nikumaroro (formerly Gardner island) where they believe Earhart and Fred Noonan landed and eventually died. In May and June of next year (2010) the TIGHAR team is headed back to Nikumaroro in the hopes of recovering artifacts that can be linked to Amelia Earhart using DNA.

KRN Aviation Services Purchases Two Inventories of General Aviation Aircraft Parts

Karl Kern, President of KRN Aviation Services recently made two large inventory purchases of general aviation aircraft parts. In July, Karl traveled to Olympia, Washington and Regina, Canada to purchase the inventories. The first inventory was purchased from Pearson Air in Washington state and consisted of Piper, Cessna and Beechcraft aircraft parts. The second inventory contains Piper Cheyenne aircraft parts and was purchased from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Government Services in Canada and included a large amount of Rotables, spares and radios.

While these two recent purchases from Pearson Air and the Saskatchewan Ministry of Government Services are probably of most interest to FBO’s (Fixed Base Operators) and repair stations, having such a wide variety of available general aviation aircraft parts allows KRN to serve a wide range of aircraft parts customers.
